There's something magical about biting into a soft, fragrant sugar cookie that tastes like a sunny lavender field. These Lavender Sugar Cookies use culinary-grade lavender simple syrup in both the dough and the glaze — giving you a delicate floral flavor in every layer. They're perfect for afternoon tea, gifting, or just treating yourself.

Ingredients
For the cookies:
- 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp lavender simple syrup (see our simple syrup recipe)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Purple sanding sugar (optional, for rolling)
For the lavender glaze:
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tbsp lavender simple syrup
- 1–2 drops purple food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Make the dough. Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg, lavender simple syrup, and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Chill. Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour (or overnight for a deeper floral flavor).
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Shape. Roll dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in sanding sugar if using, and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the edges are just set. Don't overbake — they'll firm up as they cool. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Make the glaze. Whisk powdered sugar with lavender simple syrup until smooth and drizzleable. Add food coloring if desired.
- Glaze. Drizzle or spread glaze over cooled cookies. Let set for 15 minutes before serving.
Tips
- For a stronger lavender flavor, let the dough rest overnight in the fridge.
- These cookies keep well in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- Pair with a cup of chamomile or Earl Grey tea for the ultimate lavender moment.
